Konawa Elementary School

2007-08 Calendar

Elementary students at Konawa Public Schools have many activities and innovative programs to participage in. One of the programs which we are proud to offer is the after school program, which is held from 3:00 to 5:30 p.m. Other programs which our elementary school offers include: Great Expectations - an organized compendium of best teaching practices, Expanded Day - a curriculum enrichment program, and ZAP - Zero's Aren't Permitted. These programs provide enriched opportunities and fun for the students, but more importantly concentrate on those who have challenges completing homework or may need tutors.

The Expanded Opportunities Program is a cool experience for the elementary. One Friday out of every month kids get to go watch and learn about fun activities. Below list the dates and activities of the program.

In addition to the programs described above, our students also participage in 4-H, academic teams, Brownies, Girl Scouts, and Camp Fire Kids. These are mostly after school programs, and some are organized and conductive by community volunteers. Most of our after school programs take advantage of multiple learning styles and are hands on experiences.

For the 6th grade, Camp Goddard is a unique learning experience. For one week in late September, about sixty students and nine adults experience the outdoor classroom setting, made possible by the Goddard Foundation and the National Park Service. There are several recreational activities available, such as boating, fishing, archery, and crafts, but the majority of their time is dedicated to trails where students are presented lessons on biology, ecology, geology, astronomy, sociology. The Camp Goddard experience also provides students and teachers and opportunity to learn more about each other. It is truly an experience that most students never forget.

Finally, our teachers and students also participage in General Mills Box Tops for Education program. In this program parents and students clip box tops from eligible products and bring them to school. The school can them redeem them for cash. The box tops are worth ten cents a piece. You can learn more about this program by visiting the website, Box Tops for Education.
